Dogara made the call in Nsukka, Enugu State, during the burial ceremony of Hon. Pat Asadu’s mother, Mrs. Ezinne Mary Asadu.
The speaker, who described mankind, as God’s ambassadors on earth, reminded the gathering, that only acting in line with teachings of Jesus Christ, that the man fulfils the assignment.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media (broadcast), Yakubu Musa Fagge, Dogara said “I will use this opportunity, to call on us, to rededicate ourselves to service. As the question is, when we are gone, what would we be remembered for?” Dogara reminded.
He therefore called on Nigerians in particular and mankind in general, to judge themselves not by the time they lived on earth, but by their good works.
The speaker, who described the late Mrs. Ezinne Asadu as a matriarch, who lived an exemplary life, urged her descendents to celebrate her demise, as she has successfully discharged her God’s assignment.
“When we came in here last night during the wake-keeping, we saw a very jubilant gathering. And that to me speaks louder than what I may have heard about the life and times of mama,” he said.
Dogara therefore called on Hon. Pat Asadu and his siblings, to take advantage of the path set by their late mother, and improve on it.
On his part, Enugu State governor, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, thanked the Speaker and other dignitaries, for finding time out of their demanding schedules, to pay their last respect to their colleague’s mother.
The deceased’s son, Hon. Patrick Asadu, who is the Chairman House Committee on Ports and Harbours, said perhaps their loss is irreplaceable, but they are touched by the calibre of men gathered with them during the funeral ceremony.
He said, the gesture was a sign of his mother’s good work on earth.
