Seven unlicensed hospitals shut down in Ogun

No fewer than seven unlicensed private hospitals in Ogun State have been shut down, even as another illegal mortuary was discovered at Ago Iwoye-Ijebu Igbo Area of Ijebu North Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, who led the monitoring team in company of the Transition Chairman, Ijebu North Local Government, Mr Mojeed Ekelojumati, said the hospital was shut for not complying with the revalidation of license to operate, adding that all privately owned health facilities in the state had been pre-informed since December.

While ordering the immediate evacuation of the illegal mortuary, Ipaye said the state would do all within its power to clamp down on doctors and nurses operating unlicensed health facilities.

“Some of the hospitals sealed were found operating in an unconducive environment, unapproved building and illegal morgue”, the commissioner said.

He said the state would make sure that best practices in the health sector are followed strictly, adding that the health of the people remain paramount to Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Ijebu North Local Government, Mr Ekelojumati, said the step taken by the state government is a step in the right direction, assuring its support to compliment its effort.
